Partnership agreement with Regional Economic Forum of South East Europe

World Economic Forum – Global Competitiveness Programme encourages global business leaders and governments to identify obstacles for development and doing that stimulate the development of relevant strategies in order to accomplish continuous economic development. With number of reports supplemented by seminars on regional and national competitiveness, programme serves as a catalyst for improvement of competitiveness of national economies.
World Economic Forum publishes annual report on global competitiveness since 1979. Report is considered leading estimate of comparative characteristics e.g. strengths and weaknesses of national economies worldwide. Report offers analytical estimate of reviewed progress of national competitiveness based on three key factors: technology and innovations, public institutions and macroeconomic environment. Their through years experience allowed them to develop recognized expertise regarding national competitiveness, followed by the access to currently best data base on competitiveness.

Regional Economic Forum for South East Europe and Global Competitiveness Programme of World Economic Forum (WEF) share common interest in the region of South East Europe, and see great potential for cooperation in that. Within Partnership agreement, Global Competitiveness Programme of World Economic Forum (WEF), using available data and applying own methodologies, have prepared Regional Report on competitiveness for the countries of South East Europe, which preliminary results will be presented at Forum 2004, in Cavtat, while final Regional report will be printed and distributed to all participants of Forum in beginning of year 2005.

Details on cooperation

Regional report on competitiveness provided detailed analysis for each country in Balkan region. Based on in large expertise, on competitiveness issues, analysis should provide broader report then the one given in the „Global Competitiveness Report 2004-2005“. This report should cover comparison and analysis of member countries, estimates on countries’ achievement in number of categories, such as within group of countries with approximately same GDP, covering population, level of education, and other categories.

With detailed analysis of trends in the region and detailed image of the country, this report will serve as a useful tool for creators of politics, business strategies and other significant participants in the region. Report will underline the possibilities of development of the region and what is more important will identify multiple obstacles for faster growth.

Countries that will be included in report are the following: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Macedonia, Romania, Serbia and Montenegro and Slovenia. (World Economic Forum will include Albania in its report in 2005).
